Paris, los angeles confirmed as olympics hosts

The International Olympic Committee named Paris and Los Angeles as hosts for the 2024 and 2028 Olympics on Wednesday , crowning two cities at the same time in a historic first for the embattled sports body . Loud applause rang out at the Lima Convention Centre shortly after the IOC membership voted to approve a deal hashed out in July which arranged for Paris to be given 2024 and Los Angeles 2028 . Paris and Los Angeles bid leaders joined International Olympic Committee President Thomas Bach on stage as the award was confirmed , embracing after an outcome hailed as a “win- win- win” by the IOC . NATIONAL ASSEMBLY POSTPONE RESUMPTION BY 1WEEK

The National Assembly has postponed its resumption from annual recess by one week . The lawmakers , who were to resume on September 19 , are now to resume on September 26 , 2017 . This was contained in a statement by Clerk to the National Assembly, Mr . Mohammed Sani - Omolori , on Wednesday , entitled , ‘Postponement of Resumption.’ It read , “This is to inform all distinguished senators and honourable members of the National Assembly, of the Federal Republic of Nigeria , that the resumption date of both Houses in plenary has been rescheduled from Tuesday 19 th September 2017 to Tuesday 26 th September 2017. “All distinguished senators and honourable members are by this notice requested to resume sitting in plenary on Tuesday , 26 th September , 2017 at 10 am prompt , please .”

Police charge 14 year old girl for starting fire that killed 9 pupils

A 14 - year -old Kenyan girl was charged on Wednesday with multiple counts of murder for allegedly starting a fire at a Nairobi school dormitory that left nine other schoolgirls dead . According to a source inside the court, where proceedings were held in camera due to the age of the accused , the girl denied starting the fire on September 2 at the Moi Girls High School. A source close to the investigation , speaking on condition of anonymity , said they had discovered a WhatsApp messaging group on the suspect ’s phone , in which she had mentioned her plans to burn down the school to four other friends . “I will burn the school ,” read one of the messages . The girl appeared to be angry that her parents had sent her to Moi Girls , instead of her preferred high school . The bodies of the girls who died in the blaze were burnt beyond recognition and were only identified through DNA analysis which was completed on Tuesday . AFP

Ten Nigerians have been arrested by the cyber department of India police for fake fund transfer . According to the police , eight laptops , twenty - six mobile phones, one ipad and thirty - five sim cards were recovered from the fraudsters . Online sources state that a 36 - year -old victim who works as a Nurse in India accepted a friend request to one Augustin William , who claimed to be a pastor working from Northern Ireland . After chatting for three months, the accused promised to send the victim gifts worth $ 50 ,000 along with an Iphone , a wrist watch and a gold set with pearls . In March, however , the victim received a call from a man who said he was a custom official working at Delhi Airport . He asked the victim to deposit Rs 27 ,500 as registration fee to claim the courier and then continued to persuade her to spend money. After the victim paid Rs 9 ,37 ,000 , she grew suspicious and approached the Cyber Cell, which registered a complaint and began investigations . B...

EFCC DISCOVERS PATIENCE JOHNATHAN 6BN ABUJA PLAZA

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has discovered an uncompleted eight-story building in a prime area of Abuja allegedly belonging to Patience Jonathan, the wife of former President Goodluck Jonathan. The building, which has been described by the EFCC as a ‘magnificent architectural edifice,’ has not yet been valued by the commission. However, comparative analysis of similar buildings on several trading sites such as OLX.com and Jiji.ng, within the same area put the worth of the building at N6bn. Correspondents who visited the building, which is located within the Central Business District, is between the National Mosque and the Federal Secretariat. Nigeria custom intercepts 1.4bn contrabands

The Zone B of the Nigeria Customs Service, Kaduna, has intercepted smuggled items valued at over N1.4 billion from January to August, its Controller, Aminu Dahiru, has said. Dahiru said in a telephone interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday in Minna, that a total of 1,357 items were seized during the period. He listed some of the seized items to include second hand vehicles and clothes, trucks load of rice, vegetable oil, tin tomatoes, illicit drugs, mosquito coil, tyres, furniture and drones among others. NIGERIAN'S ARRESTED IN GERMANY OVER FAKE MARRIAGE

Police in Germany and Portugal have raided properties linked to a gang suspected of arranging fake marriages in order to make it easier for Nigerians to come to Europe. Berlin police say they searched 41 homes and offices in the German capital early Tuesday, arresting five people. Officers also seized passports, European Union residency permits, cell phones, and storage devices. According to Fox News, simultaneous operations took place in Portugal. German Federal Police Spokesman, Jens Schobranski, said the suspects detained are a 50-year-old Nigerian man, two Nigerian women aged 46 and 50, and two German women aged 55 and 64. They are accused of selling certificates to Nigerian men documenting fake marriages with Portuguese women in more than 70 cases, taking up to 13,000 euros ($15,600) each time. ( SaharaReporters)

UN monitoring Nigerian Army’s operation in south-east-siasia

The chairman and founder of Nigerian Young Professionals Forum, NYPF, Mr Moses Siloko Siasia on Tuesday said that the United Nations is interested in the Nigerian Military’s Operation Python Dance II in the southeast. Siasia revealed this via his twitter account. He claimed to have received a call from the United Nations office in New York on the Nigeria’s military action. The former governorship candidate in Bayelsa state was however silent on who called him and what the caller talked about. As at the time of publishing this report, Siasia’s tweet had over 240 retweets and 90 likes. Brian Acton, co-founder of WhatsApp, now owned by Facebook Inc ( FB.O ), will leave the messaging service company to start a new foundation, he said in a Facebook post on Tuesday. Acton spent eight years with WhatsApp, which Facebook bought in 2014 for $19 billion in cash and stock. A Stanford alumnus, Acton co-founded WhatsApp with Ukrainian immigrant Jan Koum in 2009. The duo worked at Yahoo before starting WhatsApp.
