Goalkeeper dies after tragic collision with mate

Indonesian football has been rocked by the passing of one its most iconic players, Choirul Huda, during an on-field collision with a team-mate. Choirul Huda The 38-year-old, who had played his entire career at Indonesia Super League outfit Persela, collided with defender Ramon Rodrigues towards the end of the first half against Semen Padang. The goalkeeper rushed off his line to smother an attacking move from the opposition, but was unable to avoid his defender who was rushing back to clear his lines. The keeper was still conscious immediately after the incident, holding his cheeks and looking dazed on the floor, but the situation soon became critical. ‘He was still conscious and complained of pain in the chest,’ one member of the medical team told Surya. ‘Then he fell unconscious.’ Medics tended to Huda after the collision and rushed to put him on a stretcher before he was driven away in an ambulance to the Regional General Hospital in Lamongan. Adomeit to train Quadri for ITTF world cup

Former German national team coach Martin Adomeit will train Nigeria’s top ranked table tennis player, Aruna Quadri, as he intensifies his preparation for the 2017 ITTF World Cup to be held from October 20 to October 22 in Liege, Belgium, Completesportsnigeria.com reports. Adomeit’s services were secured again by Joola – a sports manufacturing firm that has been kitting Quadri for the past five years. It is the third time Adomeit will be coaching Quadri. The 53-year-old Dortmund-born German was on the bench when Quadri became the first African to qualify for the quarter-final stage of the ITTF World Cup. He was part of Nigeria’s technical crew to the 2015 African Games, where Nigeria defeated Egypt to win the men’s team event of the tournament. US Congressman offer's his brain for research

US Congressman David Cicilline, has pledged to donate his brain to research into a degenerative brain disease detected in former football players. Cicilline, a Democratic Rep. from Rhode Island, played Pop Warner football in his youth. Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy has been detected after death in more than 200 men and boys who played football at the youth, collegiate and professional level. The Providence Journal reports Cicilline made the pledge Friday at a forum in Washington on the impact of concussions. The panel included researchers from Boston University who found that of 111 NFL players whose families donated their brains to research, 110 showed CTE signs. During the forum, Cicilline asked what Congress could do to help and one researcher suggested he donate his brain. Cicilline said he’d be happy to, after he’s dead. NAN

Mr. Olukoya Ogungbeje, counsel for alleged kidnap kingpin, Chukwudumeme Onwuamadike, a.k.a. Evans, has petitioned the Police Service Commission, calling for the probe of the policemen who handled the case of his client. Ogungbeje, in a petition dated October 13, 2017, alleged that members of the Inspector-General of Police Intelligence Response Team, which handled the case, abused their position to extort his client. According to him, the team of police investigators, led by Mr. Abba Kyari, an Assistant Commissioner of Police, “forcefully and corruptly extorted” from Evans cash in local and foreign currency as well as various items including phones, wrist watches, jewellery, television, cars and trucks. Ogungbeje claimed that the policemen forcefully took N50m from Evans, while his wife was also forced to part with another N5m.
